Ford launches new free app for 2010 vehicles with SYNC

The infotainment device provides motorists with features such as voice-controlled integration with MP3 players and automatic calls to emergency services in the event of an accident. For the 2010 model year, SYNC adds GPS hardware, giving owners access to traffic, directions, and information. SYNC TDI works through your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone to deliver real-time traffic information and turn by turn directions. SYNC TDI can also be personalized to deliver real-time updates of sports scores, weather, entertainment news and more. There is no subscription fee, either, because SYNC TDI uses your existing phone service, which you're already paying for. This update is now available at syncmyride.com for owners of SYNC-equipped 2010 model-year Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models. The download only works with vehicles that aren't equipped with Ford's voice-activated navigation system. Marcus Gronholm to pilot 800 HP Ford Fiesta up Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak is the vertical land mass in question, and two heavily modified Fiestas will evidently enter the Unlimited class steered by drivers Andreas Eriksson and former WRC champion Marcus Gronholm. Unlike the Fiestas in the Movement, the two racers will have all-wheel drive and engines outputs of up to 800 horsepower or more. This will be the Fiesta's first Stateside motorsports outing, going down up July 19. In a tremendous vote of confidence in the car or his own braggadocio, Eriksson has reportedly declared "I'm convinced we'll be a top contender to break the 10-minute mark and give the Fiesta a proper racing debut in the U.S." If the Fiesta does break ten minutes, that would beat Rod Millen's hill climb record of 10:04.06 set in 1994. ... BREAKING: Visteon reportedly files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

The Michigan-based tier-1 supplier was spun off from the Ford Motor Company back in 2000, and it has struggled ever since. The filing took place in a Delaware courtroom, where the company has listed total assets of $4.58 billion and total debt of $5.3 million. Visteon's struggles have been well documented, with its ballooning debt, falling sales (down by more than 50% in the first quarter of 2009 alone) resulting in a $681 million dollar loss last year.
